Mixed Weekend Trip - Lake District

The first mixed trip of the year is here! We will be heading to the Robertson Lamb Hut in the Langdale Valley, Lake District. This is an ideal venue to access all the great walks, climbs and scrambles the Lakes has to offer. Both Walking and Climbing will be available on this trip. However, if you wish to climb then some previous experience is necessary. This can be provided through the club before the trip - please speak to Andreas Rossidis or Katie Gemmell about this.  ----------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT INFO: KIT LIST: GENERAL:  - LUMC AU Membership. This is now compulsory for all trips and you won't be able to participate without it  - Sleeping bag for the hut  - Towel, Toiletries & clothes for the weekend - Money - for food (outlined later) and for the pub!  WALKING & CLIMBING: (If it's too wet to climb you'll be walking too) Essential - Waterproof walking boots & thick socks (trainers are NOT suitable) - Waterproof jacket & trousers  - Walking trousers, Tracksuit bottoms, Warm Leggins etc. but NO jeans - they don't dry out if they get wet and aren't suitable  - Warm Layers - Fleece's, insulated jackets etc. It's cold out this time of year  - Hat & Gloves - preferable a couple of pairs  - Packed Lunch & Snacks  - AT LEAST one liter of water/juice  - Rucksack - preferably with a dry bag/bin bag liner to keep your things dry - Survival blanket/bag - these are very cheap but potentially very important. - Headtorch - Shorter days and the clocks going back before the trip means it gets dark around 5pm. Optional (but Useful) - Walking poles  - Map/compass if you want to practice some navigation - Camera CLIMBING: - Climbing shoes (Essential)  - If you have any climbing gear of your own then please bring it along - All other climbing gear can be provided! The essential kit is there for your own safety. If you're having trouble getting kit or you aren't sure what you have is suitable please message me or one of the leaders and we will help - it is important you have everything listed essential and may not be able to participate without it. Adapt outdoors in Liverpool stock everything you might need - and you even get student discount there too!. FOOD - The club will provide a selection of breakfast items for both mornings, as well as a big communal meal for everyone on the Saturday evening. - We will be stopping on the journey there to shop for Friday evening food, lunch for both days, any snacks, alcohol etc.                                                                                                                                                  - We will not need food for Sunday evening as we will be back in Liverpool. TICKETS - The cost per ticket is £40. - Tickets cover accommodation for two nights, the journey there and back with the club, the food outlined above, as well as university insurance.  - They will be on sale from 8pm on Sunday 28th October. These will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis. Keep an eye on the event page discussion for the link to purchase these. A link will be posted shortly before 8pm.  PICKUPS  - We will be running pickups from Carnatic, Greenbank, Smithdown Asda, and the Guild. The pickup times will be approximately 5-5:30 PM. Wales Rock Climbing Weekend

Our first weekend climbing trip of the year will take us to stunning North Wales. With the aim of climbing on a variety of rock types in the space of a weekend. We will be staying in the Emily Kelly Hut in Nant Gwynant below Snowdon. This is the perfect place to stay to reach any crag in the area quickly. ***It would be helpful if you are able to lead belay for this trip. If you cannot already, please make sure to head to the awesome walls sessions running for next week. Please speak to Katie if you are interested in coming along*** ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Essential Kit you MUST have: - AU MEMBERSHIP - CLIMBING SHOES!!! - Waterproof jacket & trousers - Headtorch and spare batteries - Warm layers - Waterproof boots/approach shoes - Hat and gloves - AU MEMBERSHIP - Sleeping bag - At least a one litre bottle which can be filled up at the hut - Day bag for trips to the crag - Clothes for two days and nights - If you have any climbing gear of your own then please bring it along. Food: To keep things nice and simple we will split into food groups of between 4-6, and stop at a supermarket on the way down to pick up food for the weekend. Feel free to do the same for breakfasts and lunches too. We will be shopping for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 evening meals. We will not need food for Sunday evening as we will be back in Liverpool. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- All climbing gear can be provided! Intro to Rock Climbing Trip

For our Intro to rock climbing trip we will be heading to Birchen Rocks in the Peak district (Weather Permitting). This trip is the perfect opportunity to get a feel for what it is like to climb outdoors. Don't worry if you already have some rock climbing experience, come along and enjoy a day climbing. After a climbing filled day, we will be heading to the pub in true LUMC fashion. So please remember to bring a bit of money with you. If you wish to come along to this trip, then please try and make sure that you head to one of our Awesome Walls taster session over the next few weeks. Although climbing experience is not essential but will come in handy! All Equipment will be provided, but please bring your own if you have any. Pickups will be around 7am, but exact times will be announced closer to the trip. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ESSENTIALS - Suitable footwear (Trainers, or climbing shoes if you have them) - Warm layers - Waterproof jacket and trousers - Warm Layers - At least 1 Litre of fluid (either water or squash) - Lunch and Snacks to keep you going all day - A bag to store all your stuff in at the Crag OPTIONAL - LUMC membership (you do not need LUMC membership to come on this trip but you will need it for all the following ones) - Camera TICKETS Tickets will cost £15 and will be available from 6pm on Saturday 29th September. BMC Alpine Skills Lecture 2018

Get ready for your alpine adventures at one of the BMC's alpine skills lectures this April.  Who can go? The Alpine Lectures are brilliant for anybody new to alpine climbing who want to further develop their skills. You’ll go from bumbling about to striding with confidence to the summit after you’ve gained all the knowledge from our alpine experts Steve Long and Calum Muskett. Calum Muskett 24-year-old Calum discovered climbing when he was 13. He’s travelled all over the world climbing difficult alpine routes as well as free climbing big walls such as El Capitan in Yosemite. Calum is an aspirant British Mountain Guide. Steve Long International Mountain Guide Steve has been mountaineering for over 30 years and has climbed in every continent and skied in most. Highlight ascents include the Dru in winter, Cerro Torre, Low’s Gully (Borneo), and an epic attempt on Great Trango. So what skills will you learn about? Everything the new alpine adventurer could possibly need, including: Acclimatisation Fitness Preparation Alpine Areas Effective movement/glacial travel Alpine Hazards Risk Management Ski Mountaineering Next Steps What’s more, there’ll be loads of Alpkit goodies up for grabs in the free prize draw to tool you up!

Second bouldering day trip, and maybe this time we'll get some outdoor bouldering done!  All you need is warm clothes and climbing shoes and that trusty chalk....a bouldering beanie might help with some of those tricky sends! Peaks Climbing Weekend

  For our next climbing trip, we will be heading to the Peak district for the weekend to sample some of the fantastic gritstone climbing that it has to offer. We will be staying at the Carlswark Cottage that is owned and run by the Derbyshire Pennine club. This hut is in the perfect location for climbing as it is only a matter of minutes from the closest crag! ***You must be able to lead belay for this trip. If you cannot already, please make sure to head to the awesome walls sessions running on Wednesday afternoons for the next two weeks. Lakes Walking Day Trip

PLEASE DON'T BUY A LEADER/DRIVER TICKET For the next walking day trip we will be going to somewhere in the Lake District (exact place to be decided).  As usual we will have more than one route available, so there will be something for everyone. As it is still winter, if you want to come on this trip you MUST have the correct kit, especially waterproofs and warm clothing. If you need any help with acquiring this then please let me know.  You will definitely need a headtorch. We will be ending the day in the pub, so make sure you bring some money etc.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EQUIPMENT NEEDED >LUMC membership  >Waterproof walking boots (trainers are not good enough and  having soaking wet feet all day is not fun) >Waterproof jacket (not a designer one which pretends to be  waterproof)  >Walking trousers or anything that is flexible and quick drying NOT  JEANS  >Waterproof trousers  >Warm clothes such as fleeces and thermal base layers and spare  socks >NO JEANS  >Hat and gloves (more than one pair) as it may be very cold on the hilltops >AT LEAST one litre of water >Packed lunch and snacks- you don't want to be hungry  >NO JEANS >Headtorch (this is essential as it will probabaly go dark while we  are out) >A rucksack to put all your stuff in and a dry bag/bin bag inside to  keep the contents dry >A survival bag >NO JEANS >Lots of warm clothes OPTIONAL ITEMS >Camera >Money  >Map/compass if you want to do some navigation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For your own safety it is vital you have the required equipment.  A lot of this stuff can be found fairly cheaply online (e.g. amazon). The exact location will be decided nearer to the day as we will have a much better idea of what the weather is doing. Please note that at this time of the year, the conditions don't always swing in our favour, so it may not always be possible to climb. We will certainly try out best to find dry rock but may have to scramble if the conditions don't allow climbing.  After a climbing filled day, we will be heading to the pub in true LUMC fashion. So please remember to bring a bit of money with you. If you wish to come on this trip then you MUST be able to LEAD BELAY. This is a vital skill that will keep both you and your climbing partner safe at the crag. If you need to learn to belay, then please make sure to head along to one of our awesome walls sessions on Wednesday afternoons, lead by Bethanie Rushworth The ticket price includes transport to the crag and all climbing equipment will be provided. Please bring your own kit if you have any. ***I will be checking AU membership before anyone gets on the bus!*** This is it, the trip we have all been waiting for, exams are over and Wales is waiting! We will be heading to Caseg Fraith in Ogwen valley in Snowdonia where we have climbing and walking right on the doorstep! If you want to come climbing then you will need climbing shoes and should know how to belay. Otherwise there will be plenty of walking to be done. As usual we will stop at the shops on the way where we will buy food for the Friday and Saturday night, as well as lunch and breakfast for Saturday and Sunday. Tickest will cost £35 and will go on sale on Sunday 28th January (next sunday evening) at 8pm.
